The Match
Grant’s testimonial game is in honour of his service to the Berwick Rangers Football Club.
As in time old tradition the match will be non-competitive – well that’s what we hope, and all proceeds will go to the man himself! . Everyone should have a great day.
A great deal of effort has gone into the event to make it a success, not only for Grant but for all the players who have kindly given up their Sunday to turn out for him, and also for those who will be supporting the teams – and we hope there will be a good turn-out.
Testimonial matches started in the days when players, even those at top professional clubs, were paid far less than they are today. Few players were able to live on their club wages, much less save for retirement. Whilst nowadays the big premier clubs can pay out silly money to their ever-changing players, the smaller clubs often struggle to keep their heads above water – and consequently the rewards for the players supplement what they make at their day job!
You don’t see as many testimonial matches as perhaps in the past – one of the reasons being that players are far less likely to stay with one club for a number of years – so to have given the loyalty and commitment that Grant has is indeed a personal achievement – one that we hope to acknowledge on the day, and also at other future events .
Other Events
As you know its not only the testimonial match that we are organising, we are also planning a few other events that will be scheduled for later in the year – all of which will have to be funded.
The resources required to make something like this happen are many. Some of you have already donated things like printing, strips and bus hire etc. This is fantastic and we are very grateful! Other donations can be in the form of ideas, time, effort, and very importantly money. Before a player – in this case Grant, sees any proceeds there are many things that have to be paid for so ------.

If you have a business that provides a service that you think may be of use we’d like to hear from you, but we’d definitely like to hear from you if you would like to give us the cash!!!

Apart from the obvious result of making you feel good, we’ll post your name, business details etc on this site – a bit of advertising doesn’t go wrong anywhere. We’ll also include your information in the Match Programme and in the larger Testimonial Brochure (which will be published in the summer).
