Football has always played a huge part in Grant’s life. When he was five years old someone asked him ‘What do you want to do when you grow up?’ His honest, childlike reply was’ I want to play for Hearts’ Well, he did in fact sign for the Jambos – he never actually played for the Premier side, but it was his first foray into the complex world of adult football. It didn’t put him off!
His second and ongoing experience of that roller-coaster sport is at Berwick Rangers – or more commonly known to its followers as the ‘black and gold’. It is at Shielfield Park, therefore, where Grant’s skills and heart have been for the last 11 years - and there are few players nowadays who can say ‘I played for my club for 11 Years’. It’s quite an achievement.
11 years is a long time in football – hell, it’s a long time in anything! As a mark of his loyalty and commitment, and to celebrate his long stint playing for the club Grant has been given approval to have a testimonial match (as well as a few other events) --- and what more fitting opposition than the Jambos themselves (well maybe not the first team). So its:
Berwick Rangers v Gary Mackay’s Heart’s Select
Shielfield Park
6 April 2008
2.30pm
To celebrate his time playing, and to allow fellow players, friends, family and possibly even the odd fan to help him in those celebrations a number of events are being organised. At the moment we are concentrating on the testimonial match and you’ll find all the details on this website.
Over the next few months details of the other events will be added – so keep your eyes peeled and watch this space
